7 Questions - Numbers On Napkins
(Interview Answers by Chase Stain, frontman of Numbers On
Napkins)

1. When is the new album coming out, and how do you guys
feel about the new CD?
Well, we are hoping to have the new album in stores in July of 2007.
Although we are still awaiting a response from Joe Queer.  If he feels
the album is ready, we should still be able to make the date.
Although right now we aren't confirming an exact date.

I'm really happy with the new CD.  I think everyone in the band is.  I
think we all think the same way.  I remember in the studio, we couldn't
stop laughing at the fact that each song is so different.  I'm a little
afraid that some people will only like 1-2 songs and hate the rest.
Hopefully our long time fans will continue to give us support and enjoy
the album.  We are also hoping that we don't end up losing fans
because of our drastic style change.  Punk rock is kind of juvenile in
the fact that if you try and express yourself creatively, you get labeled
as a sellout.  Even if you are only selling five thousand copies of a
CD.  So it will be very interesting to see how the kids feel about this
album.

2. What was it like working with Joe Queer?
Well for starters I think some of the press totally overrated our whole
working with Joe Queer thing.  So hopefully the truth will come out a
little better with this interview and words won't get shifted and shit.
Not that we don't mind all the free press!  (laughs).  We approached
Joe to help co-produce the album a few months after performing with
The Queers in Tempe, AZ.  I think he genuinely liked us and jumped
at the chance to help us out.  He is really one of the nicest guys we
have had the pleasure to work and perform with.  The way some of
these articles are written, makes it sound like he is in the studio
working with us non stop.  That's not how it is though.  Keep in mind,
Joe has his own band that is on the road for like 8-10 months a year.
He doesn't have a lot of free time to help out that much.  Not to
mention that he is really familiar with pop punk and our new CD is a
mix of many styles of music.  Now the cool thing is that Joe is very
open minded about music and listens to a lot of different stuff.  So he
isn't judging us bad for writing different styles.  In fact he has only
complimented us for doing this.  So anyway, he has only been in the
studio with us once.  We basically send him copies of the songs and
he gives us his opinion.  If he doesn't really like the way it sounds, or
is sang, or whatever, we try to do our best to fix it.  So he really isn't
the executive producer.  He is like the co-producer.  I'm not talking
bad about him, we wish he had more time, but he is a busy guy.  In
the end, we are really hoping that it is something he will enjoy and
feel as though he has helped us to put out something special.  In the
end, I just think Joe is the coolest idol I have ever met.  So real, so
smart, and so nice.  Just cool as hit.

3. What's the first single?
"Forget This, I'm Going to Tokyo".  We just shot a video for it, and
people seem to enjoy the song.

4. Rumors have been popping up about you signing a
contract with a major.  I've heard Capitol, Atlantic, and a few
others.  So what's up?  Are you guys signed to a major, or
working on a deal?
(Laughter)  Oh man, we heard that one too just about two weeks
back.  We rolled into a show we were playing and kept getting
"Congrats" from different people.  I don't know where that came from.
I think perhaps people are getting information confused.  We are in
the works of possibly signing to an A & R company, just got a tour
bus, and I think people are just talking.  The reality of the matter is
that we probably will release the CD on Bad Stain.  It's better to be
on Bad Stain because we'll make more cash.  Although if a major or
bigger indie label did want to sign us, I'm sure we would sign if they
were willing to promote the CD better and gave us a contract we
were happy with.  But at this time, the only offers from labels are from
labels that are very small indie labels like Bad Stain.  I guess we'll
see what happens in the future.

5. What was the best show you have ever played?
I can't speak for the guys, but I really enjoyed a few shows.  Both
times we opened for The Queers was great.  I really loved playing
with Authority Zero cuz those guys are just really nice and good guys.
I'm also a big sucker for house parties.  We played a Halloween
Party that is forever tattooed on my brain.

6. What are the band's strong and weak points?
Overall I think that is the same answer, unless you are talking about
members.  I mean, our strong point is the diversity, and that is also
our weak point.  If that makes any sense.  But everyone is the band
has the strong and weak points.   We all right the music and lyrics, so
nobody can take full credit for that.  Like in my opinion, my strong
point is my overall management of the band.  Although my weak point
is the fact that sometimes I make quick decisions and don't consult
the guys.  I know they have to get more irritated with me at times for
my constant calls about all these band issues.  Moe is the socialite of
the band.  He's great at attending shows and getting our name out
and really promoting us.  Although, if you get too many beers in Moe,
I think he can get more abrasive so that can also be his weakness.
Tad is the talent of the band.  Without him, we would just be an
average band.  He just brings the energy and tightness to the band.
The only weakness with him is probably his overall easy going
attitude.  Matt is really good at taking a good song and polishing it
up.  Making the song that much better.  Although he has an attitude
that is very tell it like it is with both fans and members of the band,
and of course that mixed with his unwillingness to play shows very
often, his refusal to ever drive or take his equipment to shows, his
overall laziness to clear the stage after playing in a timely manner,
and  the fact that he makes more cash than anyone in the band, but
can never afford to buy his own equipment, or replace equipment
from members he has broken, (laughter) or pay for anything has
actually made it kind of hard to work with him.  I mean, I love everyone
in the band, but everyone is hard for to work with at times, especially
when we are all close as brothers, you know?(Laughter)

7.  Well, I had a different question for number 7, but I'm gonna
change it now.  So how does the future of NoN look?  Will Matt
continue performing with you guys or are there thoughts of a
replacement?
(Laughter)  Oh God!  Did I just come off that bad!  Listen, we all get
on each others nerves.  I know people have got very frustrated and
everyone in this band has felt as though somebody should be
replaced at some time.  It's the fact that these guys are like family
and we all get really close and have problems.  We have no
intentions of getting rid of Matt, or anyone.  I think when things come
down to it, we are a family and everyone has put a lot into this band
and won't take that away from anyone.  I love Matt, Moe and Tad like
brothers.  I will never vote to get rid of any of them.  I understand I just
came off like I'm pissed at Matt, and I guess perhaps I am a little to
be honest.  But I'll be pissed at everyone now and then, and they'll be
pissed at me.  (Laughter) I'm sure Matt will be pissed after reading
this article.  See, a band is like a marriage, and what I have learned
about myself is that I don't communicate very well.  It's important to
get things off your chest and tell the person you have a problem if you
do in fact have a problem.  It's not just me though.  We all have
problems communicating.  In all reality, does anyone want to tell
someone they care about that they are driving them crazy!
(Laughter)  So shit, when Matt breaks my equipment, owes me
money for my record label, but then tells me he can't afford it and ten
minutes later asks if I want to go to the casino to gamble, and then
starts talking about how he is taking a week off to vacation in Florida,
I do get pissed.  But the same goes for when Tad says, "I can't play
some shows because I have to go to school", or when Moe shows up
to practice too drunk to play.  And I'm sure it pisses them off when I
just decide for the band that I'm gonna do an interview without them
(laughter), or edit our music video and release it without them even
seeing it.  I think in the end, we are all just assholes.  (laughter)  But I
also don't think any of us mean to be assholes.  We just don't
communicate well.  So nobody will be getting shit canned from the
band.  In fact, we have lots of plans for the future.  A Christmas
album, a DVD, a cover album, an acoustic album, tons of ideas.
Ohhh, and one more thing.  Matt's a asshole.  Just kidding Matt, I
want your butt love.  (laughter)  Ohh, and thanks Jason for the
interview.  I'm sure the guys will love it  (Laughter)
